James McRae  AITKEN

 James McRae Aitken è nato il 27 ottobre del 1908 a Calderbank una cittadina non lontana da Glasgow.

 Compì i suoi studi superiori nell'antica capitale scozzese di Dunfermline divenendo il miglior studente dell'istituto e si laureò all'Università di Edimburgo in materie classiche per poi specializzarsi alla Balliol di Oxford. La sua tesi gli valse il titolo di Ph.D.

 Venne reclutato nella squadra di criptologia di Bletchley e lavorando alla famosa Baracca 6, riuscì a trovare una piccola falla nel codice tedesco che portò alla decrittazione dello stesso.

 Più noto come scacchista che come bridgista, aveva imparato il gioco dal padre quando aveva solo 10 anni e, nonostante il tempo dedicato ai suoi studi, trovò modo di vincere 10 titoli scozzesi e di partecipare a 4 Olimpiadi.

 Ottimo giocatore di bridge, filatelico appassionato e golfista di buon livello, scomparve a Cheltenham in Inghilterra il 3 dicembre del 1983.

  James McRae Aitken was born on October 27, 1908 in Calderbank, a town not far from Glasgow.

He completed his high school studies in the ancient Scottish capital of Dunfermline, becoming the best student of the institution and graduated from the University of Edinburgh in classical subjects and then specialized in the Oxford Balliol. His thesis earned him the title of Ph.D.

He was recruited into the Bletchley cryptology team and working on the famous Hut 6, he managed to find a small flaw in the German code that led to the decryption of the same.

Best known as a chess player who as a bridge player, he had learned the game from his father when he was only 10 years old and, despite the time devoted to his studies, he found a way to win 10 Scottish titles and to participate in 4 Chess Olympiads.

A fine bridge player, a passionate philatelist and a good golfer, he disappeared at Cheltenham in England on December 3, 1983.
