 James Gilmore Backus è nato il 25 febbraio del 1913 a Cleveland ed è stato un attore di successo nella radio, nella televisione, nel cinema e nel mondo dei cartoni animati (la voce di Mr. Magoo).

 Backus è stato sposato prima per tre anni con Betty Kean per tre anni e poi con Henny Backus dal 1943 e fino al giorno della sua scomparsa avvenuta il 3 luglio del 1989 a Los Angeles.

 Era un giocatore amatoriale di bridge.

  James Gilmore Backus was born on 25 February 1913 in Cleveland and was a successful actor in radio, television, film and the world of cartoons (the voice of Mr. Magoo).

 Backus was first married for three years with Betty Kean for three years and then with Henny Backus from 1943 and until his death on July 3, 1989 in Los Angeles.

 He was an amateur bridge player.
