Maurice  BRAUNSTEIN

 Maury Braunstein nacque il 20 ottobre del 1914 a Schenectady una città dello stato di New York circa 30 Km a nord ovest della capitale Albany ed è stato un Direttore di torneo di livello mondiale.

 Sposato con Marion ebbero una figlia: Rae.

 Nel 1954 interruppe una promettente carriera di giocatore per dedicarsi interamente alla Direzione, una decisione questa che non rimpianse mai.

 Nel 1968 si pensionò da direttore dell'informatica dello stato di NY e divenne Direttore Nazionale ACBL.

 Nel 1973 fu chiamato dalla WBF a dirigere la Bermuda Bowl e da quel momento è stato un Direttore Internazionale di punta fino al momento del suo pensionamento avvenuto nel 1988.

 Ha ideato diversi movimenti di gioco ed era noto in ogni parte del mondo per le sue vistose cravatte a farfalla.

Scomparve il 20 settembre del 1997 nella sua casa di Schenectady.

 Married with Marion with a daughter called Rae.

 He had a tireless devotion to players’ needs, an incredible wit and an incisive knowledge about anything that could happen at the bridge table.

 In 1954 he gave up his career as a promising bridge player to become a tournament director. He quickly rose to the top of his profession by becoming a national tournament director in 1968, right after he retired from his post as computer processing director for the state of New York.

He was named the chief director for the Bermuda Bowl in 1973 by the WBF. From that point on he was either the head director or chief assistant at all world championships until he retired in 1988.

He originated several duplicate movements, including the Stanza Movement.

Braunstein was known worldwide for his bow ties which became his trademark at tournaments everywhere.
