Harriette Buckman è nata il 26 gennaio del 1935 a Chicago è sempre stata nel mondo del bridge fin da quando negli anni '40 dello scorso secolo faceva da caddie nelle manifestazioni federali.
Laureata in pedagogia presso l'Università dell'Illinois, ha insegnato per oltre 20 anni nelle scuole medie.
Sposata con due bridgisti, prima per 30 anni con Robert Hirsch e poi per 24 con Fred Buckman (foto a dx) ha avuto due figlie ed ha trascorso l'ultima parte della sua vita a Sarasota in Florida.

Harriette ha avuto un ruolo chiave nello stabilire un clima di armoniosa collaborazione delle due leghe ABA e ACBL che avevano a lungo avuto un ruolo conflittuale.
Insegnante e direttrice di torneo nel 2006 è stata per breve tempo Presidente della ACBL dopo che per un biennio aveva fatto parte del Board of Directors.
Si è spenta il 13 aprile del 2024.
Harriette Buckman was born on
January 26, 1935 in Chicago and has always been
involved in the world of bridge since the 1940s when
she was a caddie in federal events.
She graduated in education from the University of Illinois and taught for over 20 years in middle schools.
Married to two bridge players, first for 30 years with Robert Hirsch and then for 24 with Fred Buckman, she had two daughters and spent the last part of her life in Sarasota, Florida.
Harriette played a key role in establishing a climate of harmonious collaboration between the two leagues ABA and ACBL that had long had a conflicting role.
A teacher and tournament director in 2006, she was briefly President of the ACBL after having been part of the Board of Directors for two years.
She passed away on April 13, 2024.
