Bernard Cabanes è nato il 20 febbraio del 1958 a Sète, una cittadina circa 30km a sud ovest di Montpellier, adagiata sulla striscia di terra che divide lo Stagno di Thau dal Mar Mediterraneo.
Bernard conobbe il bridge da ragazzo e fece il suo primo torneo che aveva 16 anni. Il bridge lo prende totalmente ed i suoi genitori, due ristoratori di Sète devono arrendersi all'evidenza.
Oggi Bernard vive a Montpellier e gioca abitualmente il misto con Claudine de Laville Montbazon, con la quale ha vinto il Misto di Juan les Pins nel 2006, e l'open con Éric Gautret, con cui ha vinto nel 2004 l'open di Juan les Pins e con cui è arrivato quarto ai Campionati Europei a Coppie del 1995 a Roma.
Vincitore di alcuni titoli nazionali sia a squadre che a coppie, Bernard è un raffinato gastronomo ed un buon pianista, strumento che suona fin dall'età di 5 anni.

Bernard knew the bridge as a boy and made his first tournament was 16 years old. The bridge takes him totally and his parents, two restaurateurs of Sète, must face facts.
Bernard now lives in Montpellier and play habitually Mixed whit Claudine de Laville Montbazon, with whom he won the Mixed Juan les Pins in 2006, and paired with Éric Gautret, with whom he won the 2004 open in Juan les Pins and which finished fourth at the European Championships in Pairs in 1995 in Rome.
Winner of several national titles at both teams and pairs, Bernard is a refined gourmet and a good pianist, instrument playing since the age of 5 years.
