Carol Channing, who was born in Seattle on January 31st 1921 but was already in San Francisco two weeks later, was a hugely successful American actress and singer who collected three Tony awards and one Golden Globe during her long life.
An only child, in San Francisco she attended Aptos Middle School and Lowell High School before moving to Vermont where she attended Bennington College studying dance and acting.
He married four times and had a son and adopted a second one.
She was an occasional bridge player and disappeared into her Palm Spring home on January 21, 2019.
In her honor, the lights of Broadway were turned off for a minute.
