Mary Jane Chilcote was born in 1926 in Laurel, Maryland, the daughter of a federal judge and a survivor of the Titanic tragedy, she graduated from Laurel School in 1944 and graduated 4 years later from Smith College in Northampton.
Very sporty, Mary in her youth practiced field hockey for several years and tennis for her entire life.
Married with three children, she became the most famous bridge player in Cleveland, where she had moved, and one of the most prominent in the whole of Ohio, so much so that she joined the US women's national team at the 1974 Olympics.
Mary passed away on December 18, 2017.
