Ben Cohen nacque nel 1907 a Howe nel Sussex e fu un antesignano del bridge inglese: autore, editore, scrittore e commerciante di articoli bridgistici che, negli anni '30, contribuì fortemente alla diffusione del famoso sistema licitativo ACOL.
In collaborazione con un giovane Terence Reese, diede alle stampe nel 1938 "The ACOL Two Club", il primo ed il più longevo (ultima edizione a metà degli anni '50) tra tutti i testi che riguardano il famoso sistema britannico.
Come giornalista sportivo collaborò oltre che con i principali giornali inglesi, anche con altri del Sud Africa, India e Giappone.
Con Rhoda Barrow nel 1967 pubblicò l'unica edizione della "European Bridge Players Encyclopedia" rifacendosi alla prima edizione ufficiale americana del 1964.
Si spense nel 1971.
Ben Cohen (1907 – 1971) was an author, publisher, and distributor of contract
bridge books and stationery supplies.
He pioneered duplicate bridge in the UK in the early 1930s and contributed to the development of the Acol bidding system in the mid 1930s. With the young Terence Reese in 1938, he was co-author of the first, and for a long time the only, textbook of the Acol System.
He also contributed to newspapers and journals in South Africa, India, and Japan as well as the UK.
Cohen and Rhoda Barrow edited the European Bridge Players' Encyclopedia, published 1967 and based on the American Official Encyclopedia of Bridge (1964).
