Mike Develin è nato il 27 agosto del 1980 a Hobart in Tasmania ma è naturalizzato americano fin dal 2010 ed è un matematico di grido che attualmente opera nel comitato scientifico di Facebook.

Di madre coreana, Mike mosse negli USA stabilendosi a New York City e completò i suoi studi alla Stuyvesant High School ed alla Harvard University. A soli 22 anni ha conseguito un Master presso la UC - Berkeley dissertando sulle strutture geometriche discrete.

Develin, che vive a San Francisco, a iniziato a giocare a bridge nel 2005 ed ha già vinto tre NABC's nonché il Campionato Sudamericano Juniores del 2007.
