Franco Di Stefano è nato a Messina nel 1942 ed ha occupato una delle prime 40 posizioni nella classifica degli Italian Grand Master.
Ha studiato a Palermo dove si è maturato al liceo classico Garibaldi e si è laureato alla locale università.
Ha lavorato in Banca Intesa ed è stato un giornalista che in passato ha collaborato con la nota rivista "Stop" ed è un acclamato insegnante di bridge che ha fondato a Milano una rinomata Scuola, il Bridge Institute 2000.
Come giocatore ha colto la sua maggior affermazione vincendo gli Europei a Squadre del 1975 in Inghilterra, ma ha anche vinto i Campionati Misti del M.E.C. per tre volte (1977, 1979, 1981).
Sul piano nazionale tra gli altri successi ricordiamo il Campionato Italiano a Squadre del 1986 difendendo i colori meneghini ed il Campionato a Squadre Miste del 1976 e del 1979.
Ha avuto due figli, Nicola che lavora nella FIGB come responsabile informatico ed Alberto.
É scomparso il 31 ottobre del 2019.

He studied in Palermo where he matured at the Garibaldi classical high school and graduated from the local university.
He is a journalist who formerly worked with the renowned magazine "Stop" and is an acclaimed teacher of bridge who founded a famous school in Milan.
As a player, took his greatest success by winning the European Team in 1975 in England, but also won the mixed sample of EC three times (1977, 1979, 1981).
At the national level among the many titles are included the Italian Championship Team of 1986 that he won for the colors of Milan and the Italian Mixed Teams of 1976 and 1979.
He had two sons, Nicola who works in the FIGB as IT manager and Alberto.
He disappeared on 31 October 2019.
