Sebastiaan
Drijver è nato il 2 aprile del 1980 a
Bergen op Zoom, un paesino dell'Olanda del sud una quarantina di Km. a
nord di Anversa e vive a Capelle aan
den IJseel, una quindicina
di km a Est di Rotterdam, con la moglie
Femmy Boelaars (con lui
nella foto) che lavora per la federazione olandese.
Avvocato,
ha fatto la tesi sulle modalità delle decisioni delle commissioni arbitrali
internazionali nelle gare sportive. Lavora due giorni la settimana in uno studio
legale e per il resto del tempo fa il giocatore professionista. Lui e i suoi due
fratelli hanno ereditato la passione per il bridge dai loro genitori.
Lui
e Emma hanno due figli: Thomas e Emma.
Viene
scherzosamente
chiamato dagli amici "guidatore d'autobus"
per un gioco di assonanza del suo nome pronunciato in inglese.
Bas che è stato il più giovane campione nazionale del suo Paese (titolo vinto a soli 22 anni), ha iniziato a rastrellare una serie di
medaglie nella categoria degli juniores vincendo
l'argento, nell'Europeo Schools
a squadre di Vienna del 1998 e nell'Europeo a squadre di Antalya del 2000, l'oro nell'Europeo Universitario
di Weimar nel 1999, ancora l'argento nel Mondiale giovanile a coppie del 2001 in Polonia ed il bronzo in quello
del 2003 in Ungheria (con il fratello Bob) e del 2009 in Romania, nonché, nel 2000, il Torneo
dimostrativo di introduzione del Bridge nel Comitato Olimpico Europeo.
Passato nella categoria superiore, è stato il più giovane finalista delle Olimpiadi
di
Istanbul del 2004, dove contro ogni pronostico, la giovanissima squadra olandese
è stata piegata solo dal portentoso
Blue Team.
Nel 2007, dopo aver conquistato la piazza d'onore nell'anno precedente, ha
trionfato nel più importante torneo internazionale olandese il
White House ed ha conquistato il
bronzo nella
Bermuda Bowl, nel 2008 ha vinto l'oro alle
Universiadi, nel 2009 è
arrivato primo agli Europei
Transnazionali a Squadre e terzo agli
Europei a Coppie Open.
Nel
2010 ha vinto la prima Champion
Cup e nel 2011 la seconda
Bermuda Bowl dell'Olanda, ha
colto la seconda piazza nella Champion Cup ed ha vinto la prima edizione
dei World Mind Games nella Categoria Open Team,
successo bissato l'anno successivo in cui ha vinto anche l'Individuale
Maschile.
Sul circuito dell'Est ha vinto le
NEC Cup del 2014.
Il 2016 si è
aperto con la conquista del Trofeo
FMB nella prima edizione dei Campionati Invernali Europei e in
quella della medaglia di bronzo agli Europei a Squadre Open
e con l'oro nelle Olimpiadi.
Questi successi gli hanno valso il titolo di
World Grand Master
nella classifica edita dalla World Bridge Federation.
Ultimi successi il
Jacoby e le
Reisinger
2018 e 2022, la medaglia di bronzo nei
World Mixed Teams
dello stesso anno e nel 2019 la vittoria nell'IMSA
Open Master's, nei Mixed European
Teams e nella Spingold.
Nel 2020 vince la Zimmermann Cup
e prende la cittadinanza svizzera vincendo per quella nazione la
Bermuda Bowl del 2022 e del 2023 e nel 2024 gli
Europei Invernali Transnazionali.
Sebastian Drijver was born in 1980 in Bergen op Zoom and now live in
Capelle aan den IJseel
near
Rotterdam.
He is married to Femmy Boelaars who works for the Dutch Bridge
Federation. They have two sons: Emma and Thomas.
He is a lawyer and finished his studies with an essay on
decisions of appeals committees during recent international
championships.
Bas is an in-house counsel attorney two days a week and
otherwise a professional bridge player. He and his two brothers
have inherited the passion for the bridge from their parents.
Bas, who
has been the youngest national champion from his country (won title at 22 years),
began raking a number of medals in the junior category where he won the silver
in the European Schools Team in Vienna in 1998 and in European Team of Antalya
in 2000, the gold in the European University in Weimar in 1999, still the silver
in World Youth Pairs Competition in Poland in 2001 and the bronze in that of
2003 in Hungary and Romania in 2009.
Besides in
2000, he won the Tournament Bridge in the introduction of the demonstration of
European Olympic Committee.
Passed in
the higher category, has been the youngest finalist in 2004 at the Olympiad in
Istanbul where, against all odds, the young Dutch team was folded only by
portentous Blue Team.
In 2008 he
won gold at the University Team Cup in 2009 and he came the first in the Europeans
Transnational Teams and third at the European Open Pairs.
At last, in
2010 he won the first Dutch Champion's Cup.
In 2007,
after taking the place of honor in the previous year, triumphed in the most
important international tournament the White House and he won the bronze medal
in the Bermuda Bowl followed by the gold in 2011.
That same year, takes
second place
in the
Champion's
Cup
and won the
inaugural
World
Mind
in
Open Team
Category, success repeated
the following year, by adding the Individual Men.
On the East circuit he won the NEC Cup in 2013 and 2014
and in 2016 he won the FMB Trophy oat the European Winter Games, the bronze
medal at the European Open Teams and the gold medal in the Olympiad.
These
achievements have earned him the title of World Grand Master in the rankings published by the World Bridge Federation.
Last
successes in 2018 the Jacoby and the Reisinger at the spring NABC and the bronze medal in the
World Mixed Teams. In 2019 he won the IMSA Open Master's, the Mixed European
Teams and the Spingold. In 2022 newly the Reisinger.
In 2020 he
won the Zimmermann Cup, in 2022 and 2023 the Bermuda Bowl and in 2024 the
European Winter Transnational.
