Joan Eaton ha scoperto il bridge durante il periodo universitario alla Queens University di Kingston ed è stato subito grande amore.
Nel 1977 si è trasferita a Toronto dove ha lavorato nella produzione idroelettrica presso la Ontario Hydro.
Joan, che è una World International Master, ha vinto una decina di titoli canadesi e sul circuito Nord Americano ha conquistato 4 NABC tra i quali il Whitehead del 2003.
Membro abituale delle nazionali del suo Paese nel 2025 è stata eletta nella Hall of Fame canadese.
Suo marito Nader Hanna è anche lui membro della Hall of Fame canadese dal 2019.
