Robert Falkenburg, detto "Bob" è nato il 29 gennaio del 1926 a Brooklyn e la sua vita potrebbe occupare un posto di riguardo in un libro dedicato agli uomini di successo.
I primi successi Falkenburg li colse come tennista di caratura internazionale, nonostante un difetto respiratorio che gli provocava seri problemi in campo.
Sua sorella era la bellissima attrice Jinx Falkenburg.
Famoso per aver trionfato a Wimbledon nel 1948, era inviso ai tifosi inglesi perché cercava di gestire il suo difetto, abbandonando completamente l'agone nei set nei quali registrava sofferenza. Non a caso la sua vittoria a Wimbledon marca 7-5, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 e rimane famosa perché riuscì ad annullare nel finale due match point consecutivi.
Dopo aver mietuto buoni piazzamenti nei principali tornei europei, avendo sposato la brasiliana Lourdes Mayrink Veiga Machado, nel 1950 si trasferì in Brasile e difese in più occasioni i colori del Paese sud americano.
Quando decise di ritirarsi, aprì una gelateria a Copacabana a cui poco dopo affiancò una rivendita di hamburger, hot dog e milkshake, creando la prima catena di fast food brasiliano.
Divenuto ricchissimo, dopo aver ceduto la sua "Bob's", nel 1970 rientrò con la famiglia nel suo Paese d'origine e si dedicò con successo al golf e con diletto al bridge.
Nel 1974 fu eletto nella casa della fama del tennis internazionale.
Ebbe due figli Claudia e Bobby, che è stato sposato per diversi anni con l'attrice brasiliana Silvia Bandeira.

The first successes Falkenburg caught them as a tennis player of international caliber, despite a respiratory defect that caused him serious problems in the field.
His sister was the beautiful actress Jinx Falkenburg.
Famous for having triumphed at Wimbledon in 1948, he was unpopular with the English fans because he tried to manage his defect, completely abandoning the agon in the sets in which he recorded suffering. Not by chance his victory at Wimbledon marks 7-5, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 and remains famous because he managed to cancel two consecutive match points in the final.
After reaping good placings in the main European tournaments, having married the Brazilian Lourdes Mayrink Veiga Machado, in 1950 he moved to Brazil and defended the colors of the South American country on several occasions.
When he decided to retire, he opened an ice cream parlor in Copacabana which he soon joined a burger, hot dog and milkshake resale, creating the first Brazilian fast food chain.
Having become very rich, after having sold his "Bob's", in 1970 he returned with his family to his country of origin and successfully devoted himself to golf and to the pleasure of bridge.
In 1974 he was elected to the home of international tennis fame.
He had two son Claudia and Bobby, who was married for several years with Brazilian actress Silvia Bandeira..
