Jacques Ferran è nato il 30 marzo del 1920 a Montpellier ed è stato un noto giornalista francese Redattore de "L'Équipe" e Direttore di "France Football".

Ha iniziato la sua carriera di giornalista dopo la seconda guerra mondiale nel giornale di Montpellier "Le Tigre".

Con Gabriel Hanot e Jacques Ryswick appartiene ai giornalisti che crearono la Coppa Europa di Calcio per Club . Jacques Ferran redige le regole e fa il primo sorteggio.

Nel 1956, ha fondato, con Gabriel Hanot, Jacques Ryswick e Jacques Goddet fondano "Il Pallone d'Oro France Football ".

Fondatore nel 1958 della Unione Sindacale dei giornalisti sportivi, ha lavorato al fianco di Felix Levitan , Maurice Vidal e Jacques Marchand, assicurando il riconoscimento del giornalismo sportivo, e la difesa dei diritti dei giornalisti.

Molto impegnato nella difesa di una "certa idea dello sport", ha fondato varie organizzazioni contro la violenza nello Sport.

Jacques Ferran, né le 30 mars 1920 à Montpellier, est un ancien journaliste français et rédacteur en chef de L'Équipe, ex-directeur de France Football et créateur de la coupe d'Europe des clubs champions.

Il débute sa carrière de journaliste après la Seconde guerre mondiale au sein du journal montpelliérain Le Tigre (créé en 1945) puis du Midi libre.

Il monte ensuite à Paris en 1948 et travaille pour le quotidien L'Équipe en tant que correcteur des articles de Jacques Goddet. Il écrit ensuite des articles pour la rubrique football du quotidien ainsi que pour France Football. Avec Gabriel Hanot et Jacques de Ryswick il fait partie des journalistes de L'Équipe qui donnent naissance à la Coupe d'Europe des clubs. Jacques Ferran en écrit le règlement et effectue le premier tirage au sort. En 1956, il crée, avec Gabriel Hanot, Jacques Goddet et Jacques de Ryswick, le « Ballon d'or France Football ».

Membre fondateur en 1958, de l'Union Syndicale des journalistes sportifs, il œuvre, aux côtés de Félix Lévitan, Maurice Vidal et Jacques Marchand, à la reconnaissance du journalisme de sport, et à la défense de ses droits.
Très engagé dans la défense d'une « certaine idée du sport », il fonde, avec Jean Borotra, le Comité International du Fair-Play, sous l'égide de l'UNESCO, puis préside l'Association Internationale pour un sport sans violence, et enfin crée l'Association Française pour un sport sans violences.

Il prend sa retraite en 1985 mais n'en reste pas moins actif puisqu'en 1987, il participe avec Georges Bertellotti à la création du Sportel. En 1990, il fait partie, avec Jacques Marchand et l'Union syndicale des journalistes sportifs, des membres fondateurs des Assises Nationales du sport.

Le 1er février 1999, il est consacré comme le plus important des journalistes de football de l’époque, lors d’une cérémonie organisée par l’International Football Hall of champions.
