William  FLANNERY

 

  William Leo Flannery nacque a Pittsburgh il 29 luglio del 1932 e studiò alla St. James High School della sua città dove eccelse nella pallacanestro arrivando a vincere il campionato regionale nella qualità di capitano della squadra.

 Declinando l'offerta del suo College seguì il padre che era nell'industria delle tubature.

 Bridgista di alto livello, arrivò secondo in tre importanti NABC ed è noto ai bridgisti di tutto il mondo per aver ideato la fortunata convenzione che porta il suo nome.

 Scomparve a Sacramento il 10 ottobre del 2000.

   William Leo Flannery was born in Pittsburgh on 29 July 1932.

 Bill attended St. James High School in Pittsburgh West End and excelled at basket with his speed and skill. He was captain of the basket team to win the state championship title in 1950.

Bill declined offers of college to follow his father into the pipefitting business.

He was a keen card player and won numerous bridge tournaments throughout his career collecting three second position in NABC.

He invented the "Flannery Convention" and published two books on the subject of the bid and defense against the bid.

Bill died on 10 October 2000 in Sacramento.
