Roy Daniel Fox nacque a Pittsburgh nel 1946, ha imparato il bridge durante gli intervalli di pranzo quando lavorava in una fabbrica in attesa di iniziare l'Università.
Ha servito negli anni '60 nell'Esercito come specialista di lingua russa. Dopo il congedo si è laureato in matematica ed ha fatto vari lavori che lo hanno portato a vivere in molte città degli States.
Giocatore di successo, specialista delle competizioni a coppie, sul piano Nazionale è ricordato per aver vinto Life Master Pairs nel 1975 ed il Wernher nel 1979.

A livello internazionale vinse il Cavendish Invitational Pairs del 1978.
Sposato con la psichiatra Susan Fredriksen , anche lei giocatrice dilettante, hanno avuto una figlia.
Si è spento il 18 maggio del 2014 a Murphy nel North Carolina dove si era ritirato con la moglie quando, poco dopo, fu colpito dalla SLA.
Roy D. Fox was born in Pittsburgh
in 1946.
Fox joined the U.S. Air Force in the ’60s serving as a Russian-language specialist.
After discharge, Fox returned to his boyhood home and, while waiting to begin college, took a factory job and learned to play bridge during lunch hours. After earning a math degree, Fox went on to many careers, including law-office manager, computer-store owner, professional bridge player and options trader. Fox’s work took him to many different cities, and he was a wellknown bridge player in Washington DC, Kansas City, Tampa, and Chicago.
Successful player, specialist in pairs competition, he is remembered for winning the National Life Master Pairs in 1975 and the Wernher in 1979.
At the international level he won the Cavendish Invitational Pairs in 1978.
In recent years, Roy played only an occasional bridge tournament, With his wife, Susan Fredriksen, he built a home in the North Carolina mountains, and it became his favorite place to be. According to Susan, his last years before ALS were his happiest.
He died in Murphy, North Carolina due to a respiratory illness 2014, May 18.
