Ian Gardiner è nato nel 1946 ed è prematuramente scomparso il 25 marzo del 2003 a causa del male del secolo dopo che molti anni aveva raccolto assieme alla moglie con varie iniziative fondi da destinare alla lotta con il cancro.

 Sposato con Val aveva due figli, Pascal e Luke.

 Ian lavorava da trenta anni per l'Unione Nazionale dei Coltivatori di Londra ma era coinvolto nel bridge sia come amministratore che come giocatore ed è probabilmente solo per mancanza di tempo che non aveva mai partecipato ad eventi bridgistici internazionali.

 Married to Val he had two sons, Pascal and Luke.

 Ian worked for thirty years for the British Farmers' Union in London but was involved in the bridge both as an administrator and as a player, and is probably only for lack of time that he had never participated in international events.
