Sam è stato "Mr. Bridge" per generazioni di Québecois ed ha contribuito a stendere le leggi del Bridge nazionale.

 Socio fondatore della Bridge League di Montreal fu uno dei personaggi che ebbero maggior spicco nell'affiliazione alla ACBL ed ebbe modo di giocare con la nazionale canadese.

 Giornalista, articolista collaboratore di The Bridge World e studioso del Bridge in tutti i suoi aspetti comprese le forme tecniche per il movimento nei Tornei a Coppie.

 Morì nel 1982 ed è stato tra i primi ad essere eletto nella costituenda Hall of Fame canadese nel 2010.

  Sam Gold of Montréal was "Mr. Bridge" to generations of Québecois. He was a superb player, representing Canada in the 1964 World Team Olympiad, where Canada came fourth, losing in the semifinals to the USA. Gold was the second Canadian player to achieve the status of Life Master and was LM#132 overall. He was twice a member of Montréal’s Intercity Team which won the Congress Trophy in 1967 and 1968.

Sam Gold was a top tournament director and a member of the National Laws Commission. He was a charter member of the Montréal Bridge League and was instrumental in affiliating the MBL with the ACBL in 1946. Gold contributed many new duplicate movements, including the Three-Quarter Howell.

Sam Gold was also a talented writer on bridge, contributing articles to, among others, The Bridge World. Gold died in 1982.

C’était un joueur extraordinaire, qui a représenté le Canada aux Olympiades mondiales de bridge en 1964, où le Canada a terminé quatrième perdant la semi-finale au profit des États-Unis. Gold a été le deuxième joueur canadien à devenir Maître à vie, le cent trente-deuxième en tout. Il a été deux fois membre de l’équipe inter-cités de Montréal qui a remporté le Congress Trophy en 1967 et 1968.

Sam Gold était aussi un directeur de tournoi de haut niveau et un membre de la Commission du droit national. Il a été membre-fondateur de la Ligue de bridge de Montréal et a joué un rôle important dans l’affiliation de la LBM avec l’ACBL en 1946. Gold a collaboré au développement de plusieurs nouveaux mouvements de duplicate, incluant le trois-quarts Howell.

Sam Gold était aussi un écrivain de bridge talentueux et a rédigé de nombreux articles, entre autres, pour la revue The Bridge World. Il est décédé en 1982.
