Lyon Himan in arte Lorne Greene nacque il 12 febbraio del 1915 ad Ottawa.
Iniziò a recitare mentre era ancora studente alla Canada Queen's University e dopo la laurea trovò un occupazione in un'emittente radiofonico e grazie alla sua voce profonda e accattivante diventò presto una stella.
Nel 1950 lasciò il Canada per trasferirsi ad Hollywood dove fu chiamato per un film e da allora, pur continuando a lavorare per la radio, recitò regolarmente sia per il cinema, che per la TV.
Le sue serie televisive più note sono quelle di Bonanza e delle Battaglie nella Galassia.
Nel 1938 sposò Rita Hands che gli diede due figli, divorziò nel 1960 e nel 1961 sposò l'attrice Nancy Deale (23 maggio 1933 - 2 marzo 2004) che gli diede un terzo figlio e alla quale restò legato fino alla morte (nella foto)
Appassionato di Bridge disputò il Simultaneo Mondiale del 1986 in coppia con Bob Hamman.
Morì a Santa Monica in California l'11 settembre del 1987 a seguito di complicazioni polmonari successive ad un intervento chirurgico.
Lorne Greene was born Lyon Himan "Chaim" Greene on February 12, 1915 in Ottawa,
Ontario, Canada.
He began acting while attending Canada's Queen's University, and after graduation got a job in radio broadcasting.
His rich, deep, authoritarian voice quickly propelled him to prominence as Canada's top newscaster.
He left Canada in the early 1950s for a film career in Hollywood, California, and soon began appearing regularly in television, films and on radio.
His greatest successes came in two television series, the long-running Western "Bonanza" (1959), in which he played the patriarch of a wealthy frontier family, and the science fiction series "Battles in Galaxies" (1978).
In 1938 he married Rita Hands who bore him two children, divorced in 1960, in 1961 married Nancy Deale who gave him a third child and to which he was tied to the death.
In 1969, he was awarded Officer of the Order of Canada for his services to the performing arts and community.
Lover's Bridge, played in the 1986 World Simultaneous paired with Bob Hamman.
Lorne Greene died at age 72 of pneumonia following heart surgery on September 11, 1987 in Santa Monica, California.
