Di origine danese, Helen R. Gustafson nacque a St. Paul nel Nebraska il 13 ottobre del 1923 ma si trasferì ancora bambina prima a Des Moines e poi ad Iowa Falls.

Studiò presso l'Università dello Iowa per poi laurearsi presso quella del Colorado.

Dopo aver lavorato brevemente come hostess per la United Airlines tornò a Des Moines dove passò l'intera sua vita e dove lavorò scrivendo testi per una radio locale. Lì, incontrò il suo primo marito Al Rockwell con cui ebbe due figli.

Tesserata per la ACBL per oltre 40 anni, girò gli Stati Uniti ed il mondo con il secondo marito John Gustafsson (nella foto a dx), gareggiando ovunque e arrivando a vincere il Rockwell Mixed Pairs del 1983 e il Truscott USPC Senior Swiss del 1997 e a rappresentare gli USA in tre competizioni, internazionali.

John ha studiato alla Columbia University ed è stato Direttore Sanitario di 5 Compagnie di Assicurazione.

Helen, che ebbe due figli anche con John, si mantenne attivissima fino in tarda età e scomparve a causa di un cancro ai polmoni il 23 giugno del 2011.

Of Danish origin, Helen R. Gustafson was born October 13, 1923 in St. Paul in Nebraska but still moved little girl before in Des Moines and then to Iowa Falls.

He studied at the University of Iowa and graduated from the University of Colorado.

After working briefly as a stewardess for United Airlines he returned to Des Moines where he spent the whole of his life and where he worked writing lyrics for a local radio station. There, she met her first husband Al Rockwell with whom he had two sons.

ACBL Member for over 40 years, turned the United States and the world with her second husband John (photo to dx), competing everywhere and coming to win the Rockwell Mixed Pairs of 1983 and Truscott USPC Senior Swiss of 1997 and represent the US in three International competitions.

Helen, who also had two children with her second husband, remained very active into old age and disappeared because of a lung cancer on June 23 of 2011.
