Jascha Heifetz è nato il 2 febbraio del 1901 a Vilnius (nell'allora impero russo) ed è scomparso il 10 dicembre del 1987 a Los Angeles in California dopo essere stato uno dei più grandi violinista del novecento.
Bambino prodigio, ha iniziato a suonare il violino quando aveva solo tre anni e quando ne ebbe 7 diede il suo primo concerto a Kaunas!
Di origine ebraica, il padre violinista, studiò al conservatorio di Pietroburgo e suonò in Germania e Scandinavia, ebbe due matrimoni, entrambi conclusi da divorzio, e tre figli.
La prima moglie Florence Vidor sposata nel 1928 era una diva del muto ex moglie del grande King Vidor, gli diede due figli ed una terza l'adottarono. Nel 1947 sposò Frances Spiegelberg che gli diede un'altro figlio prima di divorziare nel 1962.
Suonò negli USA per la prima volta nel 1917 alla Carnegie Hall ed i suo debutto fu un emblema della legenda che sarebbe diventato.
L'artrite gli bloccò la carriera e passò l'ultima parte della sua vita ad insegnare presso l'università del Sud California.
Amante del bridge lo si poteva incontrare con una certa frequenza ai tavoli verdi californiani.

Of Jewish origin, the violinist father, he studied at the Petersburg conservatory and played in Germany and Scandinavia.
He had two marriages, both concluded by divorce, and three children.
The first wife Florence Vidor married in 1928 was a diva of the silent cinema ex-wife of the great King Vidor, gave him two sons and a third was adopted. In 1947 he married Frances Spiegelberg who gave him another son before divorcing in 1962.
He played in the USA for the first time in 1917 at the Carnegie Hall and his debut was an emblem of the legend he was to become.
Arthritis stopped his career and he spent the last part of his life teaching at the University of Southern California.
