Simon Hinge è nato il 6 giugno del 1952 a Bordertown una cittadina circa 270 Km a sud est di Adelaide, ma fin dal 1980 viveva a Melbourne dove è stato una delle figure più rappresentative del bridge australiano.
Ha studiato al St. Peter's College di Adelaide ed ha imparato il bridge fin da bambino.
Oltre che un giocatore di primo piano capace di vincere alcuni titoli nazionali Simon, che è stato anche più volte parte della nazionale del suo Paese, ha condotto da capitano diverse rappresentative nazionali ed ha fatto parte a lungo del Comitato di Gestione dell'ABF.
E' anche stata una delle figure chiave nella messa a punto del web site Federale grazie al suo passato professionale nell'informatica.

Simon è stato stroncato da un infarto improvviso il 6 gennaio del 2025 mentre si recava ai Summer Festival di Canberra.
