Zbigniew Paul Janicki è nato il 26 gennaio 1949 a Markham una città dell'Ontario circa 30 Km. a nord di Toronto.
Laureatosi in psicologia presso l'Università di York ha lavorato come statistico nell'Ufficio del Censimento Canadese e più tardi come informatico per l'IBM e per la AT&T.
Paul è stato uno dei migliori scacchisti e bridgisti nell'area di Toronto ed è anche stato l'editore della Chess Canada Magazine.
Sposato con la coreana Joo-Hee, che ha fatto parte del Goodwill Committee, hanno avuto due figli, Christopher e Katherine.
Pensionatosi nel 2014, non ha mai saputo decidersi definitivamente tra scacchi e bridge e questo lo ha portato a non eccellere in nessuno dei due. Il suo miglior risultato bridgistico è la conquista dell'argento nei Campionati Canadesi a Coppie del 1999.
Paul ha ricoperto diversi incarichi amministrativi nell'ambito del bridge federale canadese ed è anche stato insegnante e coach della squadra senior.

He graduated in Psychology at York University. Retired in 2014. Worked as a statistician in Government of Canada Census Bureau, as the editor and writer for Chess Canada magazine, programmer and systems analyst with IBM and AT&T.
Wife, Joo-Hee, Korean (Goodwill Committee co-chair); daughter, Katherine, and son, Christopher.
He learned to play in 1964 and started to play regularly in 1984. His proudest bridge moment is winning the Silver Medal in the 1999 Canadian Open Pairs Championship.
Club manager in the early 1990s, Unit 246 Secretary 1997-2008, ACBL Board of Governors 2005-7, District Director since 2009, Zone 2 WBF rep since 2013 (Systems and Seniors Committees).
Bridge teacher since 1992, bridge coach since 1998, captain of the Canada Senior team at the 2014 World Championship in Sanya, China.
