John Louis Macchi è nato il 4 marzo del 1918 a Duluth in Georgia e si è laureato al Montclair State Teachers College del New Jersey.

Arruolatosi nel 1942, guadagnò i gradi di Maggiore ed una medaglia di bronzo.
Sposato con Janet Wesley, anche lei buona bridgista, aveva due figli adottivi.
Il Bridge è stato la grande passione della sua vita. É stato Presidente della North Jersey Bridge Association ed è stato un valente direttore di Torneo.
Ha passato molti anni a girare gli USA con la moglie con la quale giocava in coppia la maggior parte dei Tornei, per poi trasferirsi a Stuart in Florida, dove si dedicarono con passione anche al Golf.
É scomparso a causa di una fibrosi polmonare il 4 gennaio del 2005.

a Duluth GA and graduated at Montclair State Teachers College in New Jersey.
John joined the Army in 1942. He received the Bronze Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, was promoted to the rank of major and then honorably discharged in 1946.
A Silver Life Master of ACBL, he was President of the North Jersey Bridge Association and as a leading member of the District 3 Board.
John served as Tournament Manager and also as a negotiator for many hotel contracts where his District held their Regional.
He taught his wife Jan, to play bridge and together spent almost all of leisure time travelling to bridge tournament and playing bridge although when they moved to Florida, golf became a second love.
