Studiò alla Westminster School di Londra ed al Trinity College di Cambridge dove ebbe modo di conoscere personaggi del calibro di Bertrand Russell e Henrik Ibsen.
Omosessuale, cultore d'arte, traduttore, editore e serio giocatore di Bridge, fu segretario particolare prima di Joseph Chamberlain e poi di Winston Churchill con il quale condivise spesso il tavolo verde.
Mai sposato, morì il 13 gennaio del 1953 nel suo appartamento londinese e fu definito dal Times "l'ultimo patrono individuale delle arti".
Sir Edward Howard Marsh (18 November 1872 – 13 January
1953) was a British polymath, translator, arts patron and civil servant.
He was educated at Westminster School in London and at Trinity College in Cambridge where he met the likes of Bertrand Russell and Henrik Ibsen.
Homosexual, lover of art, translator, editor and serious player Bridge, was the secretary of Joseph Chamberlain and Winston Churchill with which often shared the green table.
Never married, he died on January 13, 1953 in his London flat and was described by the Times "last individual patron of the arts."
He was the sponsor of the Georgian school of poets and a friend to many poets, including Rupert Brooke and Siegfried Sassoon. He was a discreet but influential figure within Britain's homosexual community.
