Hervé  MOUIEL

 Nato il 6 novembre del 1949 ad Algeri, giocatore professionista, World Grand Master a lungo presente nelle prime 50 posizioni nella speciale classifica edita dalla WBF per i giocatori in attività, è stato uno dei migliori giocatori francesi di ogni tempo.

 Sposato con due figli Jérémie e Rudy, ha colto la sua prima affermazione prestigiosa nel 1983 conquistando la medaglia di bronzo nella Bermuda Bowl di Stoccolma, competizione che poi vincerà nel 1997 ad Hammamet.

 Sempre nel 1983 ha vinto il Campionato Europeo a Squadre di Wiesbaden e nel 1984 ha guadagnato la piazza d'onore nelle Olimpiadi di Seattle che poi vincerà sia a Salsomaggiore nel 1992 che a Rodi nel 1996.

 Hervé, che ha vissuto a Le Cannet sulla Costa Azzurra con la moglie Isabelle e con il figlio Jérémie (professionista del volley ball), amava fare lunghe passeggiate mentre ripensava alle smazzate giocate la sera prima e, insieme ai molti altri trofei, nel 1991 vinse il MEC a Squadre Miste e, nel 2005, agli Europei di Tenerife conquistò l'argento nel Coppie Miste con la Willard.

Scomparso prematuramente nel 2010 quando occupava l'85ª posizione nella Classifica dei WGM, sarà ricordato anche per la sua dedizione alla crescita del Bridge giovanile francese.

Hervè Mouiel (1949-2010), one of the world’s greatest players, has dominated the world competition scene over the past 30 years, and was a World Grand Master, occupying 85th place in the official classification of the World Bridge Federation at the time of his death.

After numerous successes on the national scene, Mouiel first became a European champion, as a member of the victorious French team in Wiesbaden 1983, and took the bronze medal at the World Championship (Bermuda Bowl) a few months later in Stockholm.

This was just the beginning! With Mouiel at the helm, France was runner up at the 1984 World Team Olympiad in Seattle, and took the gold medal four years later in Salsomaggiore!

The same happened at the 1996 World Team Olympiad in Rhodes.

The year after, in Hammamet, France with Mouiel made headlines, winning the Bermuda Bowl, for the first time, after 41 years!

Mouiel scored well in pairs tournaments too, and was distinguished in Mixed Pairs competitions with his favorite partner, Sylvie Willard.

At the 2004 World Masters Individual in Verona, he finished a credible 5th among the world’s top 52 players.

Besides his successes at the bridge table, Hervé Mouiel will be remembered very fondly for his consistent work for the young players.

Since 1998 he worked training the French youth teams, inspiring Juniors to come to bridge and enjoy our sport through success.
