José Manuel de Soares Oliveira è nato il 30 gennaio del 1926 a Lisbona ed è scomparso nella stessa città il 23 luglio del 2013 dopo essere stato un personaggio di rilievo nell'amministrazione del bridge portoghese e mondiale.
Ingegnere, è stato Presidente della Federazione Portoghese dal 1985 al 1996 e membro del Comitato della Federazione Europea dal 1995 al 2007. Si è particolarmente distinto per la promozione del Bridge nella Scuola.
É anche stato il fondatore ed il Presidente della Sezione Bridge dell'ordine degli ingegneri portoghesi.
Sposato con Maria Helena Loureiro da Cunha Motta de Oliveira Soares hanno avuto 3 figli.
José Oliveira, specie nell'ultima parte della sua vita, libero da altri impegni, ha giocato a bridge regolarmente fino ai giorni della sua scomparsa.

It was also the founder and President of the Bridge Section of the order of Portuguese engineers.
Married with Maria Helena Loureiro da Cunha Motta de Oliveira Soares, they had three sons.
José Oliveira, especially in the latter part of his life, free from other commitments, he played bridge regularly until the days of her disappearance.
