Guido Resta è nato a Milano nel 1942 ma si è poi trasferito a Bergamo.
Laureato in Ingegneria Elettrotecnica al Politecnico di Milano,industriale, componente del CD della FIB, ha guidato la nazionale azzurra all'argento nella Bermuda Bowl del 1983.
Sposato con Anna ha avuto 4 figli: Ferruccio, Leopoldo Monica e Luisa.
Ha anche guidato la nazionale femminile al bronzo nella Venice Cup del 1987 e all'argento negli Europei a Squadre del 2008 e di nuovo al bronzo negli Europei Transnazionali del 2009.
Sempre da Capitano non Giocatore ha vinto l'oro ai Campionati Open a Squadre del MEC del 1983.
Oltre al Bridge ama il Golf e la Pesca.
