Jack Roosevelt Robinson, "Jackie" per gli amici, è nato al Cairo il 31 gennaio del 1919 ed è stato un grande giocatore di base ball statunitense che ha vissuto negli USA fin dalla tenera età di un anno.
Primo giocatore afro americano a militare nella MLB nell'epoca moderna, seconda base, ha giocato per i Brooklyn Dodgers dal 1947 fino a poco prima del suo ritiro avvenuto il 5 gennaio del 1957.
Suo fratello Mack, argento olimpico nel 1936, lo avviò allo sport e durante il periodo degli studi passato al Pasadena Junior College e alla UCLA, curiosamente il baseball fu lo sport dove si mise meno in mostra.
Partecipò al secondo conflitto mondiale e fu congedato con onore nel 1944.
Dopo il ritiro si impegnò in politica dove fu un repubblicano convinto.
Nel 1999 la rivista Time lo inserì nell'elenco delle 100 persone più importanti del XX secolo.
Jackie che sedeva spesso per diletto al tavolo verde
impegnandosi in partite di bridge, afflitto da diabete divenne quasi cieco e si
spense a Stamford il 24 ottobre del 1972. First African American player in the MLB in the modern era, second base,

played for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947 until just before his withdrawal on
January 5, 1957. His brother Mack, an Olympic silver medalist in 1936, started
him in sport and
during the period of his studies at Pasadena Junior College and at UCLA,
curiously baseball was the sport where he was less exposed. He participated in the Second World War and was dismissed with honor in 1944. After the
sportive retirement he engaged in politics where he was a convinced Republican. In 1999 Time magazine included him in the list of the 100 most important people
of the twentieth century. Jackie who often sat at the green table for engaging in bridge games, afflicted
with diabetes, became almost blind and died in Stamford on October 24, 1972.
