John
Edmund Lionel Sarjeant was born on July 28, 1924 in Hong Kong where his
father who was originally from Liverpool had gone to work.
In 1939 the family moved to Bromley in the London hinterland and John attended Eltham College, playing with success both cricket and bridge.
John worked for the Lloyds Underwriter and when he got married for the second time, he spent a few years in Spain and New Zealand.
Winner of several national titles, he also led some British representatives including the national youth team that led to bronze in the 1974 David Pigot.
