Helen Stern Kuban, originariamente Ilona Stern, nacque il 30 dicembre del 1918 a Pezinok nell'allora Cecoslovacchia e fu deportata ad Auschwitz, sopravvivendo a 4 anni di progionia e raccontando la sua storia parecchi anni più tardi nel libro "Born Twice".
Sposata con Martin Klein ebbe due figli e visse dapprima a Cleveland nell'Ohio e poi in diverse città finché non si stabilì ad Hollywood in Florida.
Commessa di abbigliamento, iniziò a giocare a Bridge nel 1960 fino a divenire Gold Life Master e ad aprire assieme al marito un Bridge Club di successo a Hallandale, che gesti anche dopo la scomparsa del marito.
Scomparve il 17 dicembre del 2010.
