Hylda  TOWNSEND

 

 Hylda Townsend nacque il 7 marzo del 1913 ed è stata una decana del bridge inglese che, oltre ad essere un'abile giocatrice, è stata una stimata amministratrice.

 Dopo essere stata per lungo tempo Membro del Comitato Gare dell'EBU, Hylda ne divenne Vice Presidente nel 1997 dopo aver vinto il Premio Dimmie Fleming nel 1993.

 A livello regionale Hylda è stata Presidente e comproprietaria della Contract Bridge Association del Warwickshire guadagnandosi nel 2009 il titolo di Membro a vita.

 É stata anche la fondatrice, proprietaria e Presidente del Moseley Bridge Club.

 Membro vitalizio del West Midlands Bridge Club ha diretto negli anni '90 una Sezione di Bridge assistito che ha licenziato numerosi nuovi ed entusiasti bridgisti.

 Negli ultimi anni aveva smesso di giocare a causa delle imperfette condizioni di salute ed è scomparsa il 13 novembre del 2014.

  Hylda Townsend (1913 - 2014) was a doyenne of bridge who, until recent times, was a keen and active bridge player, as well as being a committed and capable bridge  dministrator.

At national level, Hylda became a Vice President of the English Bridge Union in 1997; was the recipient of a Dimmie Fleming award in 1993, and had been a long-serving member of the EBU’s Tournament Committee.

At county level, Hylda served as chairman and shareholder of the Warwick shire Contract Bridge Association, being made a life member for her services to the county in 2009. Hylda always kept a keen eye on the affairs of the county, and over many years various chairmen found her insight and support extremely valuable.

At club level, Hylda was a founder member, life member, and president (1979-1981) of Moseley Bridge Club. She was also instrumental in helping North Birmingham Bridge Club to acquire its premises. A life member of West Midlands Bridge Club, Hylda was heavily involved in many aspects of the club’s management and, well into her nineties, ran an assisted play session, from which a number of enthusiastic bridge players emerged.
