Sir Derrick Julius Wernher (7 giugno 1889 - 6 marzo 1948) ha vissuto la sua vita tra Londra e Deal nel New Jersey, ed è stato negli anni '30 dello scorso secolo, presidente della American Bridge League e membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione della American Whist League.

 Come giocatore Wernher conquistò il suo massimo trofeo vincendo la Reisinger Cup del 1930.

 Egli è ricordato da tutti i bridgisti americani per aver donato il Trofeo che porta il suo nome e che premia ogni anno agli Spring NABC's la miglior coppia partecipante agli Open Pairs II.

 Al Wernher Trophy partecipano tutte le migliori coppie maschili mondiali tanto che può essere considerato a buon diritto un vero e  proprio Campionato Mondiale di Categoria.

Wernher (1889-1948) was a resident of London, England and Deal, NJ.

A leading personality in American bridge in the Thirties, Wernher was president of the American Bridge League in 1933, chairman of its Master Plan committee and a member of the board of directors of the American Whist League, Wernher placed second in the Asbury Challenge Teams (now the Spingold Knockout Teams) in 1936 and won the Reisinger (played in conjunction with the New York regional) in 1930.
