Le personalità del bridge

John Wignall è nato in Inghilterra nel 1932 e si è laureato alla Manchester University prima di trasferirsi in Nuova Zelanda.

Agente di cambio, si sposò con Adele che gli diede tre figli: Trevor, Anne e Keith.

Quando, fresco di laurea arrivò a Christchurch nel 1953, fu colto dalla passione del bridge che non lo lasciò mai più, tanto che quando scomparve era socio del club locale da oltre 70 anni.

Per decenni è stato un personaggio chiave sia della Federazione Neozelandese che della WBF, organizzazioni per le quali ha ricevuto i più alti attestati di merito e ricoperto varie cariche,arrivando anche alla Vicepresidenza WBF.

John ha anche ricevuto dal suo Paese un'onorificenza al merito per i servizi resi al bridge neozelandese.

Giocatore di talento, ha fatto parte della nazionale del suo Paese di adozione e per oltre 40 anni ha pubblicato un articolo settimanale per la Christchurch Press che veniva riportato dalla Otago Daily Times uno dei 4 quotidiani più diffusi in Nuova Zelanda.

John è scomparso improvvisamente mentre si trovava nella sua abitazione il 13 marzo del 2023.

John Wignall was born in England in 1932 and graduated from Manchester University before moving to New Zealand.

A stockbroker, he married Adele who bore him three children: Trevor, Anne and Keith.

When he, fresh out of college, arrived in Christchurch in 1953, he was seized by a passion for bridge that never left him, so much so that when he disappeared he had been a member of the local club for over 70 years.

For decades he has been a key figure in both the New Zealand Federation and the WBF, organizations for which he has received the highest certificates of merit and held various positions, even reaching the WBF Vice-President.

John also received a national honors award for services to New Zealand bridge.

A talented player, he was part of his adopted country's national team and for over 40 years had a weekly article for the Christchurch Press which was reported by the Otago Daily Times one of the top 4 newspapers in New Zealand.

John suddenly disappeared while in his home on March 13, 2023.
