Molte coppie rispondono ad un'apertura in nobile con una salto splinter a livello di 4 quando hanno singolo nel colore appoggio quarto e 13/15 PO:

Come puņ fare l'apertore per sapere se chiudere nella manche nel colore di apertura o incoraggiare la ricerca di slam?

Un modo empirico puņ essere quello di applicare la Regola del 26 sommando al numero fisso 13 (forza minima del compagno) i PO presenti nei tre colori escluso quello splinter.

Se il totale č almeno pari a 26, si puņ intraprendere la ricerca di slam.

Con le seguenti carte, l'apertore incoraggia lo slam operando una cue bid in quanto puņ contare (13 + 13 = 26 PO):

Con queste carte, l'apertore conclude a manche in quanto puņ contare (9 + 13 = 22 PO):

If your partner makes a splinter bid if you can add up all your points outside the splinter suit and it comes to 26 or more you should consider bidding a slam.

For example:

Then West should immediately add his points outside the splinter suit to a known guarantee of 13-15 points. Since his points total 13 and his partner is promising 13-15, then he knows the total is 26 and he should immediately be interested in a slam as 6 Spades is an easy make. West should therefore make suitable overtures either by cuebidding or Ace asking.

However if the hands are now as follows:

Now you add your points outside the splinter suit (i.e. only 9) to the guaranteed 13 and now the total only amounts to 22. And although you now have 27 points between the two hands the slam is now impossible.
