Cross Ruff |
La tecnica nota come Tagli Incrociati è propria del gioco in atout e si attua tagliando ripetutamente da entrambi i lati in modo da moltiplicare la capacità di presa dei propri atout.
In questo modo si può arrivare fino a collezionare un numero di prese pari a quello complessivo dei propri atout.
Gli ingredienti per poter applicare la tecnica dei Tagli Incrociati sono:
a) possibilità di effettuare più tagli da entrambi i lati
b) Impossibilità di venire tagliati durante le manovre preparatorie o surtagliati durante l'effettuazione dei tagli
Perché il gioco a Tagli Incrociati possa funzionare egregiamente è necessario riscuotere preventivamente tutte le teste nei colori esterni, in modo tale che gli avversari non possano tagliarli con i lori atout residui ma siano costretti ad impegnarli per sotto tagliare.

Quando siete controgiocanti e subodorate che il giocante imposterà il suo piano di gioco a tagli incrociati, attaccate in atout qualsiasi sia la vostra figura e tornateci tutte le volte che vi sarà possibile.

The cross
ruff is a special form of ruffing in the short hand where the declarer
attempts to maximize the number of tricks possible by scoring trump
separately by ruffing a different suit in dummy and in declarer’s own hand.
The characteristics of a cross ruff are the following:
a) Declarer and dummy both have unbalanced hands
b) Declarer and dummy both have lots of trump, usually at least 3 in each hand
c) The opponents have mostly low trump,
so the risk of an overruff is low.
If you plan to play a cross ruff, you never want to lead trump yourself, not even once.
If you plan to play a cross ruff, you often need to cash your winners in the other side suits, so that as you are cross ruffing, when they run out of your suit, the defenders cannot discard those suits, and later trump your high card winners.
On defense, if you can determine the declarer is planning a cross ruff, lead trump, as many times as you can.
This hand is ideally suited for a cross ruff – good trumps in both hands, shortness facing weak longer suits, and not enough tricks to make game.

If South plays a cross ruff, win the ♦A, cash the ♣A, then lead to ♥A and trump ♥ in hand and trump ♣ in dummy.
Continue to trump♣ in dummy and trump ♥ in hand to score all 8 trump separately.
In this way, South scores 8 trump separately (4 in each hand) and 3 aces for 11 tricks.
