Per iniziativa
del magnate americano Warren Buffett, a partire dal 2006 è stato istituito un
evento biennale che prevede lo scontro tra 24 dei migliori giocatori europei ed
americani.
La competizione
prevede gare testa a testa, a coppie, a squadre e individuali, ed un
particolare sistema di punteggio mediante il quale ogni singolo scontro vinto
porta punti alla propria squadra ispirandosi al modello della famosa Ryder Cup
del golf. Questa
competizione che rinverdisce le
epiche sfide degli anni
'30 dello scorso secolo si deve ad un'idea di
Paul Hackett che è stata
poi sponsorizzata da Warren Buffet che, come
Bill Gates, è uno
degli uomini più ricchi del pianeta e che, come lui e spesso con lui, ama molto giocare a
Bridge.
La competizione è stata abolita dopo
l'edizione del 2012.
On the initiative of U.S. tycoon Warren Buffett, since 2006 has established a biennial event which includes a clash between the 24 best players in Europe and America.
The idea behind the Buffett Cup is that the two teams from either side of the Atlantic should include the world's finest players.
The competition includes races head to head, in pairs, team and individual, and a special scoring system whereby each battle won leads point to his team modeled on the famous Ryder Cup of the golf.
This competition, which revives the epic challenges of the 30s of last century was due to an idea that Paul Hackett was then sponsored by Warren Buffet who, like Bill Gates, is one of the richest men on the planet and, as he and often with him, loves to play Bridge.
The tournament is cancelled after the 2012 edition.
