Nato nel 1929, Joe è stato un forte giocatore ed uno dei migliori insegnanti inglesi della seconda metà dello scorso secolo.
Come giocatore si è messo in luce sul piano internazionale vincendo il Campionato Europeo Juniores a Squadre del 1978 e conquistando l'argento nei Campionati Europei a Squadre del MEC, l'anno successivo.
Per lunghi anni editore dell' "International Popular Bridge Monthly" è stato anche l'impeccabile proprietario dell' "Acol Bridge Club".
Scomparve prematuramente nel maggio del 1989.

As a player is highlighted himself on the international stage by winning the Junior European Championship Team in 1978 and winning the silver medal in European Championship Team of the EC, the following year.
