Steve  BARNFIELD

 Stephen Barnfield è nato nel 1953 nell'area di Manchester ed è stato un ispettore fiscale dell'Agenzia delle Entrate prima di diventare un dottore commercialista che ha lavorato in numerosi studi professionali.

 Sposato con Frances Cornell altra nota bridgista inglese che incontrò nelle sale del Manchester Bridge Club della Grammar School e che gli diede i due figli David e Laura, che sono anche loro giocatori amatoriali.

 Steve, che aveva imparato il bridge a scuola, si laureò in matematica all'Università di Cambridge e in informatica al Christ's College sviluppò la sua carriera professionale prima nella stessa città e poi a Londra.

 Lavoro e famiglia ne fecero un giocatore saltuario, ma, ciononostante riuscì a partecipare allo Junior Camrose del 1978 ed a vincere la Tollemache Cup nel 1980 ed il Brighton Four Stars Teams nel 1990.

Steve è stato anche un conosciuto amministratore della EBU membro per oltre 15 anni del Law & Ethics Committee.

Dopo una lunga battaglia con il cancro è scomparso a Chelsea il 14 agosto del 2019.

 Stephen Barnfield was born in 1953 in the Manchester area and was a tax inspector for the Revenue Agency before becoming a chartered accountant who worked in a number of professional firms.

Married to Frances Cornell, another well-known English bridge player whom he met in the halls of the Manchester Bridge Club of the Grammar School and who gave him the two children David and Laura, who are also amateur players.

Steve, who had learned bridge in school, graduated in mathematics from Cambridge University and in computer science from Christ's College developed his professional career first in the same city and then in London.

Work and family made him an occasional player, but nevertheless he managed to participate in the Junior Camrose in 1978 and to win the Tollemache Cup in 1980 and the Brighton Four Stars Teams in 1990.

He is probably best known for his major contribution to bridge administration. He served on the EBU Law & Ethics Committee for over 15 years, six as chairman, and was honoured by the EBU with a Silver Award earlier this year.

After a long battle with cancer he passed away in Chelsea on 14 August 2019.
