Stephen  BURGESS

 Stephen Robert Stanley Burgess  è nato il 17 ottobre del 1956 a Kaitangata nel sud della Nuova Zelanda ed imparò a giocare a bridge quando aveva 15 anni.

 Dopo aver vissuto a Dunedin e Christchurch si è trasferito a Sydney.

 Compagno di Denise che gli ha donato 5 figli è stato per oltre 40 anni un rispettato ed autorevole membro della comunità bridgistica australiana che si è fregiato di una numerosissima serie di titoli sia nel suo Paese che in Australia.

 Più volte membro delle Nazionali neozelandesi e australiana, a livello internazionale Burgess ha vinto due volte il Cavendish Teams nel 1984 e nel 1190 ed ha conquistato un bronzo nel Mondiale a Copie del 1986.

 Stephen è scomparso il 3 gennaio del 2026 nell'Ospedale di Canberra a seguito di un accidente capitatogli poco prima del precedente Natale.

  Stephen Robert Stanley Burgess was born on October 17, 1956, in Kaitangata, southern New Zealand, and learned to play bridge at the age of 15.

After living in Dunedin and Christchurch, he moved to Sydney.

Partner of Denise, who bore him five children, he was a respected and influential member of the Australian bridge community for over 40 years, winning numerous titles both in his home country and in Australia.

A multiple member of the New Zealand and Australian national teams, Burgess won the Cavendish Teams twice at international level in 1984 and 1990, and won a bronze medal at the 1986 World Championships.

Stephen passed away on January 3, 2026, in Canberra Hospital following an accident shortly before the previous Christmas..
