Wilton Norman Chamberlain said Wilt was born in Philadelphia on August 21, 1936 and was a basketball player and US basketball coach who still holds the record of points scored in a single match (100!).
Of humble origins, after the beginnings in athletics, he is considered the one who demonstrated the importance of height (measuring 216 cm) in the game of basketball.
He began his amazing career in college playing for 4 years at Overbrook and then moving on to the Kansas Jayhawks, Globetrotters, Philad Warriors, S.F. Warriors, at the Philadelphia 76ers, to close in the Los Angeles Lakers.
He retired in 1973 after a career spanning 22 years and marked 31.419, briefly coached the San Diego Conquistadors.
Wilt, who was an amateur bridge player, was introduced to the American Basketball Hall of Fame.
He died prematurely due to a heart attack in Bel Air in California on 12 October 1999.
