Wilton Norman Chamberlain detto Wilt è nato a Filadelfia il 21 agosto del 1936 ed è stato un cestista e allenatore di basket statunitense che ancora detiene il record dei punti segnati in una singola partita (100!).

Di umili origini, dopo gli inizi nell'atletica leggera, è considerato colui che ha dimostrato l'importanza dell'altezza (misurava 216 cm) nel gioco del basket.

Iniziò la sua strepitosa carriera al college giocando per 4 anni negli Overbrook per poi passare ai Kansas Jayhawks, ai Globetrotters, ai Philad Warriors, agli S.F. Warriors, ai Philadelphia 76ers, per chiudere nei Los Angeles Lakers.

Ritiratosi nel 1973 dopo una carriera durata 22 anni e 31.419 marcati, ha fatto brevemente l'allenatore per i San Diego Conquistadors.

Wilt, che era un giocatore amatoriale di bridge, è stato introdotto nella Hall of Fame del basket americano.

Scomparve prematuramente a causa di un infarto a Bel Air in California il 12 ottobre del 1999.

Wilt, who was an amateur bridge player, was introduced to the American Basketball Hall of Fame.

He died prematurely due to a heart attack in Bel Air in California on 12 October 1999.
