Jurek è nato a Stargard in Polonia il 9 novembre del 1948 ed ha preso il dottorato in scienze matematiche presso l'Università di Varsavia, ma si è trasferito definitivamente in Canada a Gatineau nei pressi di Ottawa nel 1984 dove insegna ingegneria informatica presso l'università del Quebec.

 Nella Categoria juniores ha rappresentato la nazionale polacca nel 1974 a Copenaghen, rappresentando poi spesso la nazionale canadese, Paese del quale ha preso la nazionalità.

 Ha vinto diversi titoli canadesi e nel 2014 ha conquistato il bronzo nella Rand Cup.

 Ha giocato spesso in coppia con Darren Wolpert con il quale ha conseguito come miglior risultato la seconda piazza nella NEC Cup del 2002.

E' scomparso il 13 novembre del 2021.

Jurek was born in Stargard, Poland, on November 9, 1948, and earned a doctorate in mathematical sciences from the University of Warsaw. He moved permanently to Gatineau, Canada, near Ottawa, in 1984, where he teaches computer engineering at the University of Quebec.

In the junior category, he represented the Polish national team in 1974 in Copenhagen, and subsequently frequently represented the Canadian national team, where he became a Canadian citizen.

He won several Canadian titles and won bronze in the 2014 Rand Cup.

He often played alongside Darren Wolpert, with whom he achieved a best result of second place in the 2002 NEC Cup., born in Stargard , is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Quebec.
