Élisabeth Marie Marguerite de Gailhard-Bancel è nata il 12 giugno del 1912 ad Allex una cittadina sita circa 120 km. a sud di Lione ed è stata una delle migliori giocatori francesi negli anni '60.
Seconda di cinque fratelli, sposata con il pluridecorato generale Denis Marie Henri de Widerspach-Thor (1905-1978) è scomparsa il 19 febbraio del 1988 a Lione.
Marguerite ha collezionato una serie di successi sia in campo nazionale che internazionale tra i quali ricordiamo: a livello mondiale ha vinto il bronzo nello Squadre Femminili all'Olimpiade del 1964. A livello europeo ha vinto il Coppie Femminili del 1976, i Campionati a Squadre Femminili nel 1965 e nel 1969, dopo esser arrivata all'argento nelle edizioni del 1962 e 1966. Nei campionati del mercato comune ha vinto lo Squadre Femminile nel 1975 preceduto dal bronzo del 1971, stesso metallo guadagnato nello Squadre Miste nel 1971 e ha vinto il Coppie Femminile nel 1971.

Second of five sons, married to Denis Marie Henri de Widerspach-Thor (1905-1978) she passed away on February 19, 1988 in Lyon.
Marguerite has collected a series of successes both nationally and internationally among which we remember: worldwide she won the bronze in the Women's Teams at the 1964 Olympics. At European level she won the Women's Pairs of 1976, the Women's Teams Championships in 1965 and 1969, after having achieved silver in the editions of 1962 and 1966. In the common market championships she won the Women's Teams in 1975 preceded by the bronze of 1971, the same metal earned in the Mixed Teams in 1971 and in add on she won the Pairs Women in 1971.
