Nato il 19 novembre del 1943 a Rovetta in provincia di Bergamo, Soldano ha vissuto a Padova dove è stato titolare di una ditta di informatica.
Sposato con Cristina, ha avuto due figli: nel 1973 Matteo e nel 1975 Tommaso.
Dopo aver fatto parte negli anni '70 del mitico Blue Team è stato uno dei migliori giocatori italiani di sempre.
Ha vinto un Campionato Mondiale a Squadre nel 1974 ed è arrivato due volte secondo nel 1979 e nel 1983, 4 Campionati Europei (i primi due nel 1973 e nel 1979, e gli ultimi due vent'anni più tardi! nel 1999 e nel 2001) ed è arrivato alla piazza d'onore nel 1983, l'oro nelle Olimpiadi del 2000 ed un argento ed un bronzo nelle Olimpiadi Invernali a Squadre , il primo World Transnational Teams nel 1997, la Champion's Cup del 2007 e ben 6 medaglie ai Campionati del MEC a Squadre (4 ori e due argenti).
Sul piano nazionale, oltre a innumerevoli piazzamenti ha vinto, tra l'altro, 6 Campionati a Squadre Open e 6 Coppa Italia.
Ha rappresentato gli azzurri in molte altre competizioni internazionali sempre distinguendosi e conquistandosi il titolo di World Grand Master nella cui classifica ha occupato una delle prime 50 posizioni per molti anni ed è anche stato il coach delle squadre femminili italiane.
Un altro titolo da ricordare è il bronzo nel Coppie Miste agli Europei di Antalya del 2007 insieme ad un'altra storica azzurra: Gabriella Olivieri.
Nel 2017 tornò alla ribalta internazionale vincendo il Jacoby.
Dano, che nell'ultimo periodo della sua vita era stato compagno di bridge di Patricia, la vedova di James Cayne, è scomparso alla fine di marzo del 2024 dopo una breve malattia.

He won a World Team Championship in 1974 and came second twice in 1979 and 1983, 4 European Championships (the first two in 1973 and 1979, and the last two twenty years later! in 1999 and 2001) and reached the place of honor in 1983, gold in the 2000 Olympics and a silver and a bronze in the Team Winter Olympics, the first World Transnational Teams in 1997, the Champion's Cup in 2007 and 6 medals at the MEC Teams (4 gold and two silver).
On a national level, in addition to countless placings, he has won, among other things, 6 Open Team Championships and 6 Italian Cups.
He represented the Azzurri in many other international competitions, always distinguishing himself and earning the title of World Grand Master in which he occupied one of the top 50 positions for many years and was also the coach of the Italian women's teams.
Another title to remember is the bronze in the Mixed Pairs at
the 2007 European Championships in Antalya together with another historic
Italian: Gabriella Olivieri.
In 2017 he returned to the international spotlight by winning the Jacoby.
Dano, who in the last period of his life had been a bridge partner of Patricia, the widow of James Cayne, passed away at the end of March 2024 after a short illness..
