Nato a Parma nel 1906 è stato una delle figure più rappresentative del bridge italiano della prima metà del secolo.

 Sposato con due figlie, ha tirato su alla "Giarrettiera" della Galleria di Milano un numero enorme di bridgisti ed ha dedicato tutto il suo tempo all'insegnamento ed alla Direzione di Torneo, trascurando l'agonismo, nonostante, fosse un giocatore veramente dotato, ed uno dei migliori in assoluto ante '50.

 Campione italiano a Squadre nel 1952 e Campione Europeo a Squadre  nel 1965, è anche stato  Campione Italiano a Coppie Open nel 1955 con Rina Jabes, Campione Italiano a Squadre Miste (1947, 1950, 1953).

 Le sue convenzioni chiamate "Gandolfine" hanno avuto grande spolvero al suo tempo e, in alcuni casi, sono state precorritrici del bridge d'oggi, come ad esempio il "contro gandolfina" per il quale era obbligatorio almeno un colore Nobile.

 É stato a lungo collaboratore di Bridge d'Italia con la famosa rubrica "La Bancarella delle Smazzate".

 Si è spento amorevolmente assistito dalla moglie e dalle due figlie il 23 settembre del 1976 dopo due anni di travaglio.

Born in Parma in 1906 was one of the most representative figures of Italian bridge in the first half of the century.

Married with two daughters, he pulled up at the "Garter" in the Galleria in Milan a huge number of bridge players and has devoted all his time to teaching and tournament direction, ignoring the competitive spirit, though, was a really gifted player, and one of the best ever pre-'50.

Italian Teams Champion in 1952 and European Teams Champion in 1965, he also won  Italian Open Pairs (1955)  paired with Rina Jabes and Italian Mixed Championships (1947, 1950, 1953).

His conventions called "gandolfine" has had great popularity at its time and, in some cases, were precursors of today's bridge, such as the "contre gandolfina" for which he required at least one Major.

Lovingly attended by his wife and daughters, he died in 1976, after two years of illness.
