Bernard  GOLDENFIELD

 Bernard è nato il 22 novembre del 1932 a Manchester, figlio mediano in una famiglia di origine ebrea e ha cominciato a giocare a bridge nel 1949 ed è stato sposato con la campionessa inglese Rhona con la  quale ha avuto due figli che gli hanno regalato sei nipoti.

 Buon calciatore in gioventù, cominciò a giocare nell'intervallo di  pranzo con Denis Robson (oggi Presidente della English Bridge Union), che era un suo collega di banca  e formò con lui una partnership di valore e di lunga durata.

 Fedele come pochi sia nella vita che nel bridge, Bernard ha giocato per sempre in coppia con la moglie Rhona da quando l'ha conosciuta e sposata nei primi anni '70.

 Appassionato solutore di parole crociate, ottimo giocatore di bowling, Goldenfield amava fare lunghe passeggiate pensando alle mani giocate la sera prima.

 In ambito nazionale ha vinto 3 Hubert Phillips, 2 Nicko ed un Tollemache.

 In ambito internazionale ha guadagnato il bronzo nel misto a squadre del Common Market del 1993, ha vinto l'oro nello Swiss Teams IMSA del 2003 facendolo seguire dall'argento nell'anno successivo in cui ha vinto anche il bronzo nel Point-Board-A-Match. Sempre nel 2003, negli stessi campionati ha vinto l'argento sia nel coppie miste che in quelle duplicate.

Bernard è scomparso il 6 giugno del 2019.

Bernard was born on November 22, 1932 in Manchester, a middle child in a family of Jewish origin and began playing bridge in 1949 and was married to the English champion Rhona with whom he had two children and six grandchildren.

A good soccer player in his youth, he began playing in the lunch break with Denis Robson (former President of the English Bridge Union), who was a bank colleague of his and formed a valuable and long-lasting partnership.

Faithful as few in life and in bridge, Bernard played forever with his wife Rhona since he met and married her in the early 1970s.

Passionate solver of crosswords, excellent bowling player, Goldenfield loved to take long walks thinking about the hands played the night before.

At the national level he won 3 Hubert Phillips, 2 Nicko and one Tollemache.

Internationally, he earned bronze in the mixed teams of the Common Market in 1993, won gold in the Swiss Teams IMSA in 2003, followed by silver in the following year in which he also won bronze in Point-Board-A-Match. Also in 2003, in the same championships he won silver in both mixed and duplicate pairs.

Bernard passed away on June 6, 2019.
