Roy Higson nacque nel 1920 ed è stato una figura di riferimento per il bridge inglese dell'aria di Manchester.
È stato sposato con Mary (foto a dx).
Giocatore di buona levatura ha fatto parte della nazionale inglese al Camrose ed ha vinto un paio di titoli nazionali a coppie (1960 - 1961).
Dopo questi successi a giocato molto poco dedicandosi con grande successo all'attività di arbitro nell'area di Manchester dove la moglie si occupava dell'amministrazione.
Morì a Malaga in Spagna nel novembre del 1999 ed oggi viene ricordato da una delle principali classiche britanniche la Roy Higson Cup.
Mary Higson nacque nel 1916 ed è stata una figura di riferimento del bridge amministrativo britannico ed un'ottima giocatrice che ha vinto diverse competizioni e che è stata premiata con il Dimmie Fleming per i servizi resi al bridge britannico.
Ebbe due figli Chrystal e Nigel e, per avvicinarsi a quest'ultimo, si trasferì nel 2002 nel Surrey dove morì il 30 marzo del 2004.

Roy (1920 - 1999) was one of Manchester's
finest players, representing England in Camrose matches and winning the National
Pairs twice in 1960 and 1961.
In the late sixties and seventies he played little, devoting his energies to tournament directing, serving as chief tournament director of the EBU for many years until his retirement.
Latterly, he began to play again, mainly in local events, but his occasional forays into national tournaments were usually successful.
Last year he represented Manchester in the Pachabo Cup, finishing 7th and was 5th in the BBL Swiss Teams at Buxton in the summer.
He had lost none of his skill and was still one of the finest card players in the area. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his dry wit and friendly manner.
Hiron who was Married with Mary died in Malaga, Spain 7 June 1999.
Mary Higson (1916 - 2004) was a reference figure for the British administrative bridge and a great player who won several competitions and was awarded with Dimmie Fleming for services at the British Bridge.
She had two children Chrystal and Nigel to approach to which she moved to Surrey in 2002 where she died on March 30.
