Elena Conte č nata nel 1947 a Roma dove ha frequentato il liceo Virgilio, dove si č laureata alla Sapienza e dove si č sposata nel 1970 con il greco Giorgio Jeronomidis a cui ha dato due figli: Andrew e David.
Nel 1971 si č trasferita con il marito a Reading, ha perfezionato il suo inglese e ha insegnato prima presso l'universitā di Lancaster e poi presso quella di Reading.
Elena, che parlava italiano, inglese, tedesco e francese, č molto conosciuta da noi per essere stata la traduttrice della saga di Tolkien.
In tutto il mondo anglofono č conosciuta per essere stata per 8 anni l'editrice di "English Bridge" e per altri dieci quella di "Teletext Bridge" sul Canale 4 della TV inglese.
Come giocatrice ha vinto alcuni titoli a livello nazionale ed era appassionata anche di rugby.
Si č spenta il 23 settembre del 2020 nella cittā dove viveva.
Elena Conte was born in 1947 in Rome where she attended
Virgilio high school, where she graduated from Sapienza and where she married in
1970 with the Greek Giorgio Jeronomidis to whom she gave two children: Andrew
and David.
In 1971 she moved with her husband to Reading, perfected her English and taught first at Lancaster University and then at Reading University.
Elena, who spoke Italian, English, German and French, is very well known to us for being the translator of the Tolkien saga.
Throughout the English-speaking world it is known for being the editor of "English Bridge" for 8 years and for another ten years that of "Teletext Bridge" on Channel 4 of English TV.
As a player she has won some national titles and was also passionate about rugby.
She died on September 23, 2020 in the city where she lived.
