Nato il 28 aprile del 1952, ha vissuto ad Amsterdam con la sua compagna ed è stato oltre che un ottimo bridgista, un appassionato di backgammon, parole crociate, tennis e snooker.
Ha rappresentato la nazionale olandese in una Olimpiade e 5 Campionati d'Europa, guadagnando un bronzo nel 1995.
Ha guadagnato anche un argento ed un bronzo nei Campionati del MEC a Coppie Libere (1985 e 1983) e un bronzo ai Campionati del Mondo a Coppie del 1994.
Inoltre, Erik ha guidato le nazionali juniores ed open dei tulipani ad altri trionfi internazionali.
Si è spento prematuramente il 24 novembre del 2012 a causa di un attacco di cuore mentre si trovava in vacanza nell'isola di Saba (Antille Olandesi).

He died prematurely in 2012 of a heart attack while on vacation in the island of Saba (Netherlands Antilles).
Il était notamment l’entraîneur de l’équipe qui a remporté Maas les titres juniors européen et mondial en 1986, de celle qui a terminé troisième aux Olympiades de Salsomaggiore en 1992, et de Team Orange 1, qui vient de gagner les Championnats d’Europe Open à Tenerife.
Il aime les mots-puzzles, le backgammon, le tennis et le snooker.
Il mourut prématurément en 2012 en raison d'une crise cardiaque alors en vacances dans l'île de Saba (Antilles néerlandaises).
