Ferenc Leitner nacque ad Arad il 28 luglio del 1894, fu impiegato di banca e lavorò nelle industrie tessili ma, soprattutto fu uno dei leader della Federazione Magiara ed uno degli straordinari campioni della squadra ungherese degli anni '30 dello scorso secolo.
Fu più volte campione nazionale e vinse gli Europei Open nel 1934.
Un suo libro pubblicato nel 1932 fu il primo che parlava delle regole del Portland Club.
Scomparve a Budapest il 3 agosto del 1959.

Leitner was born in Arad on 28 July 1894, was a bank
clerk and worked in the textile industries but,
above all, he was one of the leaders of the Magyar
Federation and one of the extraordinary champions of
the Hungarian team of the 1930s of the last century.
He was several times national champion and won the European Open in 1934.
One of his books published in 1932 was the first that spoke of the Portland Club rules.
He disappeared in Budapest on August 3, 1959.
